Lust and light

The debate about The Secret rages on, and it’s getting really fun now. I think people on both sides of the fray, as well as those who fancy themselves to be sitting on the fence, can agree on one thing: All of the criticism that’s coming out isn’t going to even make a dent in the sales of this New-Wage marketing masterpiece. If anything, it will boost them. But I don’t have a stake in it either way.* I’m just having fun with the whole thing.

Yep, I seem to have gotten over my boredom with the topic. I mostly blame Blair Warren, dispenser of Crooked Wisdom, for this. Blair, it seems has recently been given a Universal Law even more powerful than the Law of Attraction: the Law of Extraction, or LOE. Works first time, every time – and no loopholes. Be greedy now!

And speaking of greed, I need to warn y’all about something. There’s a tall, lanky guru named Tilak who seems to have attracted some pretty prominent Law of Attraction fans in recent months. I blogged about him a while back. Rhonda Byrne herself was seen partying with him in Las Vegas during Tilak’s birthday bash last year. (More on that in a moment.) At that time Tilak was one of the darlings of the conspicuously enlightened, including Marcy From Maui, owner of the Powerful Intentions web site. (Powerful intentions are a cornerstone of LOA culture, as I blogged about a few months ago.) Anyway, it seems Tilak got himself in a spot of trouble on the East Coast back in the early 1990s, but hey, no problem, there’s always the West Coast. So that’s where he is now.

Well, the other day I learned from the Guruphiliac blog that poor Tilak is in trouble once again. I wonder how this is going to affect his cozy relationship with Rhonda Byrne, which I learned more about when I went back to Guruphiliac just now. The plot thickens!

I hasten to add that, according to his lawyers, all of the accusations of fraud and sexual shenanigans leveled against Tilak are lies. But I did notice that Marcy From Maui seems to have taken down her bubbly blog posts about Tilak, as well as the birthday bash photos from last November. I imagine she feels pretty let down. I’m sure Joe Sugarman, the BluBlocker Man who, according to Marcy, first brought Tilak to Maui, feels a bit let down too. Maybe these people should have done a little background check before they so enthusiastically welcomed this guy into their inner circle.

And how must poor Rhonda feel?

Anyway, here’s a link to a news story and video of Tilak’s latest troubles.
http://www.10news.com/news/11087742/detail.html

But remember, his lawyers say it’s all a lie, or at least a big misunderstanding. And lawyers never lie, so I’m sure Tilak will get off. Wait, let me reword that. I am sure he will be exonerated. So you people on the North and South Coasts, get ready. A new guru may be coming to your town soon!

Well, that’s it for now. Keep practicing whichever Universal Law works for you the best. If none of the existing Laws work for you, make up one of your own. Just stay away from tall dark horny guys who have itty-bitty flashlights in their mouths.

* If I decide to do Google ads or something in the future (and I may do that because, let’s face it; we’re all whores in one way or another), I will have a financial stake in getting traffic to my blog. But I will disclose that information when and if it becomes applicable. BTW, the "PetSmart coupons" link at the bottom of my blog is there as part of the hit counter. I'm not getting any money for it; I just get to use the hit counter for free. The counter shows new traffic only, beginning on February 22, 2007. Just in case you're wondering.

The "secretversusscience" domain is owned by something called the Zant Development Group. If you google that phrase you find their website appears to be nonfunctional, but the president has a glowing testimonial on another site called subliminalmanifestation.com starring none other than our pal Joe Vitale.

Kevin Hogan has a whole page on his site devoted to meeting F2F with Vitale for the first time in 2005 after knowing each other for ten years.

This whole thing is so inbred even the mountain folk won't touch it.

LOL, Anon, and you are absolutely right. I had my head up my you-know-what when I put that link there (and, for that matter, when I joined the forum myself). Thanks for the reminder. I'm gonna go remove the link right now.

Thanks again!

Connie, if you go to this web address, you can watch the Today show airing of the Secret interview I told you about. I googled it and it came up.

Awww.... you sure can dish it out but can't really take it, eh? Maybe you should get your cherry popped - it might help to lighten your sorry ass up.

Are you a friend of Tilak or a friend of The Secret? Or both? Either way, you're not a very good reflection of their teachings. But at least you're not being a Mister Dirty Mouth. Even so, I think your mommy should be monitoring your computer usage a little bit more closely. Now be a good boy and run over and harass Jody at Guruphiliac for a while.

Dear Cosmic Connie,

Thank you so much for your incredibly informative Blog on those behind The Secret.

I borrowed the book from a friend after having been completely disgusted by the DVD (which I managed to see on-line before they pulled it) - I found the book is equally disturbing.

I'm usually not one for conspiracy theories but have to mention that I have tried (unsuccessfully) to post a 1 star review of The Secret (book) on Amazon.

First I was informed that I cannot include URL's (yet Janet Boyer did - Her "spotlight" review is the one you've posted here). So I edited my review, removing the URL. It never posted.

A week later, I inquired as to why it had not & was told my review was "too long". I was advised to edit & resubmit which I did & it still did not post.

I would like to add that my review fell well within the guidelines of Amazon. In fact, if you notice Boyer's review is close to 1,000 words (maybe more) & she has a URL included in her review. Yet her glowing review (which is actually in large part for the DVD - she's quite critical of the book but her review is confusing imho) was permitted.

So I tried again. My review is about 500 words, contains no profanity & I list several quotes directly from the book itself. Yet again - it did not post.

So after asking why this was I was now informed that my review is an "opinion" piece & not a "critical" review of the book.

I cannot help but think that if I am having difficulty submitting a 1 star review of the book then so too are many others. I also think that perhaps the editor (Byrne) or the publishers are planting a lot of the positive reviews.

Someone who managed to get his 1 star review of the book posted emailed me saying he knows for a fact that Joe Vitale pays reviewers to write positive reviews of his books & that he wouldn't doubt if something similar isn't happening with The Secret.

However, their are quite a few negative reviews of the dvd on Amazon. I believe both spotlight reviews of the dvd are extremely negative. So I don't know?

I've submitted reviews in the past & while all my 5 star reviews immediately post my only other 1 star review (of the ridiculously pathetic book The Isaiah Effect by Gregg Braden) took a week to post & only posted after I emailed Amazon asking them why it wasn't up yet.

If anyone is interested I just posted my review in the "Discussion" section of The Secret under the title 'My Censored Review of The Secret'.

Thank you again for all your great work!

And thank you, Paulette. You're not the first to wonder if something funny's going on at Amazon regarding critical comments about their cash cows. Steve Salerno of SHAMblog noticed some problems with reviews on books by Dr. Phil and other bestselling authors. I thought Amazon had changed their ways, but perhaps they have not.

In fact, when I get a moment from my "real" work I just may turn this into a new blog post, because I think it's that important.

Thanks for writing, Paulette, and I hope you'll keep coming back to my Whirled.

Connie, I just popped over to guruphiliac and learned a bunch about Tilak.
I wanted to thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I was definitly on the wrong road with this guy. So thanks

You're welcome, Anon. There are so many tricksters out there; I'm glad that you were able to avoid getting hurt by this one.

Why don't you pop over to Guruphiliac and learn more about Jody Radzik?

Funny enough, Jody Radzik (owner of the Guruphiliac Blog) claimed: 1) He is self-realized; 2) He is a devotee of the Hindu Goddess Kali Ma; 3) He has a Guru; 4) He uses and promotes illegal psychedelic drugs.

Did you know this? Now you do.

Guru-Ex, I am familiar with the site to which you linked. Obviously you have an issue with Jody. I don't. But you should know this: as I personally am not into gurus or Eastern paths of any sort, I honestly don't give a rat's patootie who's "self-realized" and who isn't.

Furthermore, although I might make fun of wacko people and imply they're stoners, I really don't hold the use and promotion of illegal drugs against anyone.

Moreover, although I link to his blog and enjoy it very much, I have never claimed Jody is a saint or an unimpeachable source. To my knowledge, Jody has never claimed these things either. Whatever personal flaws and inconsistencies he may exhibit, however, they don't invalidate the information he shares on his blog. For the most part he does take care to cite his sources.

Most importantly in regard to this post on my blog: What you may see as Jody's failings do not constitute proof that Tilak is "the real deal." Besides, Jody is far from the only person who has said negative things about Tilak.

PS - I have a dog named Kali.
